Where did all of August go?  I didn't realize so much time had passed since I last posted.  The above is an abstracted figure from a class this summer called the Figure in the Landscape.  The wonderful Dean Fisher was the instructor.

Pink Gerbera

Brrrr…it is 7 degrees outside and the temp is still dropping.

Had major difficulties photographing this painting and the above is the best I can do.  The background is actually darker and the gerbera daisy is a deep pink--not the red of the photograph.  But enjoyed doing this painting and wanted to share it.

Best Wishes for the New Year!

I hope your holiday season has been joyful thus far.  All is well in unseasonably warm Connecticut.  That is except the struggles with the last two paintings which both ended up scraped away after many hours.  I decided to retreat and paint something familiar so as not to be frustrated a third time.

Big Jar with Two Lemons

Threw in one more lemon; wanted to repeat something similar just to make sure the first one wasn't a fluke.  The second lemon provided the opportunity for more warmth in the reflections.

I was in Florida this past week; now back in Connecticut with a space heater at my feet-- it is not the same experience.

Balanced Feather

Here is the last of the feather series.  Thought I would attempt the downy feather one more time.  These are essentially the same elements as the last post just rearranged.  (note to self-- buy some fresh flowers and/or fruit.)  :-}

Feather with Eggshells

A continuation of the turkey feather theme….this time to see if I could capture the fuzzy quality of the downy portion of this feather.

Red Apples

I seem to be into "red" recently.  Perhaps it is the subliminal effect of the approaching holidays.

Red Can Opener

Another one of those darn cute can openers.

Green Can Opener

This can opener came from the huge Brimfield, Massachusetts antique show which I visited for the first time in September.  It was too cute not to paint.

Tulips

This was the same bunch of tulips used for the last painting after they had begun to open.   After the painting, they went back into the fridge and weeks later still look great.  They make me smile when I reach in there for milk!

Three Tulips

I found these pretty pink tulips in the grocery store.  Thought tulips were only available in the spring so it was a nice surprise.

I thought I would paint some hydrangea blossoms before the deer got to them.

Time

Time is passing slowly waiting for the snow plows to arrive.  Official snowfall for our town from the blizzard-- 40 inches.

Onions with Brown Pot

A change from the usual fruit or flowers.

Silver Teapot

White paint was used in abundance in the mixtures during this painting which did make me mindful of the advice often given "Too much white = dull, chalky colors".   In this case though, I still liked the outcome.

Mixed Bouquet with Egg

This is the first of a few recent still lifes.  The title should actually be mixed bouquet with misshapen egg!  I have temporarily given up on the egg after repainting it numerous times.  One of these days, I will go back and make the egg more well, eggy.

Transported

Here is one more museum piece before I get back to my still life paintings.  I liked the bust looking forward while the tall gentleman bends to closely examine the landscape.

Admiring Rothko

One of the challenges with these museum paintings is portraying the artist's original.  I think the colors of this Rothko are more in the spirit of rather than absolutely true but I loved the way this gentleman's jacket blended with the lowest color bar.
