Yellow and Pink Bouquet

Happy Spring Everyone!

If you would like a chance to own the above painting and contribute to a good cause at the same time, then I have the event for you.  This painting will be raffled at the Hamden Art League's 60th Annual Goldenbells reception, April 14,  7 - 9 p.m., at the Miller Memorial Library Senior Center, 2901 Dixwell Avenue, Hamden, Ct.  Proceeds go to the scholarship fund.  There will be lots of great art at the exhibit.  You do not have to be a member to come and enjoy the exhibit and reception.  Hope to see you there!

White and Brown

Decided to step back from the intense blue backgrounds and go for something more subtle.

I said I wasn't going to complain but it is snowing again tonight in Connecticut--- for the umpteenth time this winter.

Fallen Petals

This is the first painting I have done with white daisies that I am actually pleased with-- trying to make them colorful and still read as white has been a real challenge for me.

Snowing yet again tonight here in Connecticut.  Can't complain-- have been reading about the challenges Boston is facing with their record snows.

Pink Gerbera

Brrrr…it is 7 degrees outside and the temp is still dropping.

Had major difficulties photographing this painting and the above is the best I can do.  The background is actually darker and the gerbera daisy is a deep pink--not the red of the photograph.  But enjoyed doing this painting and wanted to share it.

Three Tulips

I found these pretty pink tulips in the grocery store.  Thought tulips were only available in the spring so it was a nice surprise.

Zinnia

Happy, hot, humid summer.  Set up a temporary studio in my basement--- so much cooler and the flowers last so much longer!

Two Carnations

Carnations again; this time with a rather fanciful color interpretation.

Perhaps not a tower, more a low mound of apples.

Big Glass Jar

A new glass object and found in my own basement!  The dark background is a change of pace for me as well.

I had the pleasure of observing Qiang Huang give a wonderful demo today. Although often his backgounds are dark, interestingly, today he chose a light background for his demo.  Below are a few images from the demo, ending with the setup and a photo of Qiang (a wonderful instructor).

Figs with Jar

Fresh figs from a local market-- a new subject!  Took a wee bit licence with the colors and their intensity.

Cherry with Marigold

I just came back from a workshop in Vermont with my very favorite artist --- Stanley Bielen!  The above is one of several paintings completed at the workshop.  It was a great experience.  Mr. Bielen is a generous teacher and all around nice guy.  Below is a series of images from one of his demos.

 
 

                                 

Carnations with Cherries

Usually when composing a still life, I choose the fewest objects possible but for this painting decided to  have more overlapping objects.

Mixed Bouquet with Egg

This is the first of a few recent still lifes.  The title should actually be mixed bouquet with misshapen egg!  I have temporarily given up on the egg after repainting it numerous times.  One of these days, I will go back and make the egg more well, eggy.
