Red Hat

The canvas was toned with red first--I like the little bits of it showing through here and there. A friend reassured me that the painting imaged is by Mark Rothko.

  1. I like this, Susan! Love all the reds, not just the hat! This reminds me of fashion in the 1950's, with a full skirt and cinched waist. The composition is great, with the figure at the right edge of the painting. She seems full absorbed by the art she is viewing. Really nice!

  4. Lovely colors - I believe the painting she is admiring is by Adolph Gottlieb...probably "Cadmium Red over Black".

  5. Thank you! I bet you are right-- it does look like a Gottlieb painting. I looked up Cadmium Red over Black; I don't think it is that painting but I saw that he did many paintings with a red orb over black. So nice that I will be able to correctly name the artist. Thanks again.
