Self Portrait

I am posting this self portrait because I ran across an artist whose work I really admire. She is Catherine Kehoe who was born in Connecticut and teaches at Massachusetts College of Art and Design. Her still life paintings are great but her self portraits are particularly engaging. In an interview, she said that she does her self portraits quickly with the paint left over from her other paintings. Although I suspect that I will not repeat this exercise often, this week I thought I would try to follow her example.

  5. I LOVE this!! Using leftover paint is such a great idea and is a challenge. I was not familiar with Catherine Kehoe so I clicked your link to her and she is amazing. Easy to understand why you admire her work. I have bookmarked her site so I can look at it often. Thanks for sharing!

  7. Really enjoy seeing this self portrait and your loose, free brushstrokes and grayed colors. It has a wonderful open feel. Thanks for the link to Kehoe's terrific work. You and she have inspired me to try an sp again . . . still scraping and struggling but having fun!

  9. I've just discovered your wonderful paintings and as I looked at earlier posts I found this one where you mention Catherine Kehoe! I love her self-portraits, too. I didn't realize she uses leftover paint. She's giving a talk at Mass College of Art on March 24. Great job on your own self-portrait!
