Three Berries

The goal here was to have a very tiny area of red be a commanding presence. I had intended for the rest of the painting to be more neutral, more gray but somehow it came out a brighter blue. Sometimes you only have so much control-- the painting seems to go its own way.

  1. Beautiful, Susan! You did a great job capturing the essence of the glass. All the grays and blues provide a wonderful setting for the berries. I also like the little touch of red in the right side of the jar. Good job!

  2. These little berries look like our TX mountain laurel. Sophora secundiflora
Your painting is very well designed and executed.

  3. A very beautiful painting! I love the shimmery quality of the glass and all the pastels/grays . . . they do make the little berries take command.

  4. This is very cool. I can't say more than Virginia has already said, she nailed it.

  5. Susan, You did a great job with letting the red be the center of attention, but I love how the berries being in the glass makes your eye roam all around in the glass, noticing reflected light, color and all the pieces of paint that you applied to make it read "glass". I also think the shadow to the right of the glass is beautiful. Yea for you!
